This year’s BlogHer conference was in the fashion capital of the U.S., New York City. With that in mind, I’m sure many of the ladies from smaller towns/cities were pretty excited to strut their stuff in the Big Apple and totally obsessed over what to wear during their trip planning. Even though I am in and out of NYC regularly, I was no different. Luckily, I had help from my friends at the Gap, Juicy Couture, and Dress Barn to make sure I was dressed for every occasion during the conference, especially for the day I was a panel speaker.

Before leaving for the conference, I rushed off to to my styling session at Juicy Couture’s Center City Philadelphia store where Andrew and Olivia helped me pick out a look from the new Fall line.

Then I picked up my fellow blogganista, Nichelle Gainer, jumped in the fabulous 2011 Ford Escape Hybrid and headed to NYC. Arrived at the Hilton in casual mode, no make-up, in my Gap 1969 Skinny jeans, printed ruffle collar blouse, L.A.M.B platform wedge penny loafers, and the perfect metallic hobo.

Prior to the conference, however, there were a few grumblings on twitter about some women “not caring what they wore” or “what you wear to BlogHer isn’t important”. As if worrying about your appearance at a professional conference somehow made you superficial or pretentious. What do I say to that? B.S.!! I watched, and looked, and everyday the women at the conference were comfy and casual by day, and totally haute by night. Clearly all the ladies (and gents 😉 ) cared and put thought into getting dressed up for the occasion.

Why does it matter you ask? It matters because this is business – period. If you’re looking to work with brands and companies, you must look the part and be able to represent your own personal brand and the sponsors you may work with, if you’re serious about your business as a blogger. Check out how many of you stepped out in style during the conference.
