A Mysterious and Magical Escape, Fancy Nights fragrance by Jessica Simpson

Seductive, warm and embracing, Jessica Simpson’s new fragrance, Fancy Nights is for the pure romantic.  As she states, “Fancy Nights is the expecting that somebody is going to fall in love with the aura that you’re giving off,  it’s the seductive, beautiful, romantic side of you.  And, you don’t ever want to let it go.” Jessica’s  creative motivation is the movie, Great Expectations.  Jessica worked with Steve DeMercado to captivate the mysterious, magical, and brand new feeling that only love brings to the surface.

With notes of Egyptian Papyrus, Indonesian Patchouli, Bulgarian Red Rose, Sandalwood, Tonka Bean, and the finale of Exotic Amber, Vanilla Absolute, and Cedar Wood, this fragrance is warm, creamy and, heady.  It is definitely a night scent.  Fancy Nights smells like a younger spicier version of Donna Karan’s Cashmere Mist Collection.

New York Stylist, and mom, Luciene Salomone helps mothers and daughters transform each other while reconnecting inside and out in WEtv’s new reality series “You’re Wearing That?!?. Check out our style Q & A with the lovely Ms. Salomone and see a sneak peek of the new show:

LucieneSalomone110 Stylist Mom Luciene Salomone Helps Fashionably Challenged Mother Daughter Duos on WEtvs New Series(Luciene Salomone on the set of WEtv’s “Are You Wearing That!?!?”)

SM:      In your experience as a stylist, what is the biggest challenge most moms/women face when in comes to fashion and styling their wardrobes?

LS:         The biggest challenge is getting women, especially moms, to get out of their ruts, clean their closets stick to what looks best on their body type.  So many moms give all their time and attention to their families and work, that they seem to forget about themselves.  It is very important for women to take the necessary time to build a wardrobe, learn how to do their own hair and make up and dress well everyday.  I always start with  Closet Rehab, where we get rid of all the clutter that doesn’t work, and build a functional wardrobe that fits and looks great.  I also see that so many women don’t know how to shop and fall into buying something on sale or because it is the trend.  Not every trend works for every woman.  It is better to spend more money on one great piece than waste money on something you will never wear.  I always tell my clients to become their own fashion editors. Learn what looks best on you for your body type and life style and stick to it.  There are lots of ways to incorporate the many trends we see each season.

Another obstacle is for busy women to find the time for themselves.  I know women that only allow themselves 15 minutes to get dressed in the morning…well if you are showering for 10, that gives you 5 for hair, makeup and selecting an outfit.  Find the time and get into the habit of dressing yourself every morning.  Once you do it a couple of times it will be second nature.  Having a great functional wardrobe will make dressing easier and you will be less overwhelmed.   Remember, even effortless style takes effort!!

SM:        What advice can you give to new moms, who may be having difficulty adjusting their wardrobe because of a change in body type/shape post-baby?

LS:           This is such a great question.  New moms especially need to feel good and look good.  More often than not our bodies change and we are usually heavier.  A few tips:

  • Give yourself ample time to go back to your original weight and don’t feel like you have to fit right back into your skinny jeans.
  • Buy shape wear!  Instantly makes you feel thinner.
  • Exercise.  It will help get the added weight off and give you more energy.
  • Invest in a couple of great basic pieces that are your current size and that you can possibly have altered when you loose the weight.  Also, look for fabrics with stretch such as a great pair of jeans and a man tailored blouse.
  • Do NOT Wear Maternity clothes…the last thing you want after 9 months of being pregnant is to continue to look pregnant.
  • Focus on your assets.  Now is the time to wear things that will complement your new bust line or curvier hips.
  • Find things in your existing wardrobe that still fit and move them to the front of the closet…i.e., sweaters, knits dresses etc.
  • Do Not try to squeeze into something that doesn’t fit.
  • Buy some great shoes and accessories to kick up your simple temporary wardrobe.  Changing up the accessories will give the same outfit a whole new look and will be part of your permanent wardrobe as well.
  • Now more than ever, make an effort.  Get dressed first thing in the morning, and fix your hair and makeup.

SM:        What are the 3 things every woman should have in her wardrobe?

  • Great LBD….Little Black Dress
  • Great fitting pair of jeans
  • Crisp White man tailored blouse

SM:         What have been your guidelines with your daughter in terms of fashion/style, and what’s your advice to her and other girls/young women on keeping a healthy attitude about their body image?

LS:            My daughter is 10 years old, but she has always loved fashion and dressing.  I am fortunate that we pretty much see eye to eye on things.  But from the very beginning I feel it is important to help your daughter develop not only a sense of style, but the self confidence to feel good about themselves.  When Giuliana was younger I would choose 3 outfits and let her make the final decision.  This way she felt that it was her choice, but I ultimately made the final approval.  I also recommend to moms with young teenage or tween daughters to really take and interest and be patient.

Before you set out to shop with your daughter, talk about her style, look at magazines and websites for styles that she likes.  If your daughter likes something that is inappropriate, don’t just say no, offer alternatives.  For example, a too sexy lace top, show her how the lace trend can look age appropriate as a super cute skirt worn with leggings.  Heel height is another issue for tweens.  Every girl is dying to get into a pair of really high heels.  Before you say no, show them just how many cute 2” wedges or kitten heels look great.  If you approach this touchy topic with a really positive attitude and give them the time and attention they need, it will be a great experience.  Make it fun and if you need help, don’t be afraid to enlist a great sales associate or personal shopper from the store.  Many stores offer personal shopping free of charge.  Also, be sure your budget is set before you go shopping and remind your daughter she can find lots of great stuff within your budget.  Lastly, mom, don’t be afraid to say no.  You have the final say when your daughter is young and you are buying her clothes.

With regard to body image, I think for a long time girls felt pressure to feel really thin.  In the recent years I have actually seen a trend where moms are more concerned because their daughters are gaining too much weight.  Being healthy and fit at a young age is so important.  It sets the tone for the rest of your life.  If your daughter doesn’t have a good body image she may not feel great in any clothes.  I always say the best parenting skill is to lead by example.  If you want your daughter to have a healthy fit body and good self image, be sure you are doing the same for your self.  In addition to finding your own sense of style with your clothes, it is important to be healthy and fit.  This will also lead to doing things together.  Cook healthy meals, play a game of tennis, go power walking or try a yoga class.   You will be doing something that is great for you as well as your daughter.

The Coty NYC NewYork Color Event with Celebrity Makeup Artist Mathew Nigara!

NYC New York Color has launched a line of cosmetics that will please any makeup aficionado.  Celebrity make-up artist Mathew Nigara, has worked with Jessica Simpson, Kate Winslet, and Marisa Tomei, and countless other celebrities, is the national make-up artist for NYC  Color.  Mathew shared that summer is a great time take more risk with color.  Nigara says to opt for a rich colored lipstick instead of the tried and true lip-gloss, and to be bold when applying eyeshadow going for brighter colors that don’t necessarily match the outfit that you’re wearing.  And his most noted beauty tip, to apply more blush!

mathew nigara e1279663544955 The Coty NYC NewYork Color Event with Celebrity Makeup Artist Mathew Nigara!

I must say that I am very impressed with the way the color of this line wears, the vibrancy of the eyeshadow as well as the blush, lasted all day without touching up once.  I’ve tried all of the shadows, blush,  lip-gloss and lipstick.   One of the things that I like is, the light, creamy texture of the powder eyeshadow.  For an additional pop, I wet my angle brush and applied the shadow over the already colorific liner and created major eye drama.  I am not so fond of the mascara, as it is thick and clumpy.

However, the most important is the price point.  The line is available at CVS, Target, Walmart and Eckerds.  Unfortunately, you cannot order directly from the NYC Color website, and when you click on the link to the retailer that does sell the product, it does not take you directly to the NYC Color  page your must search.

Overall, this is a fun line that has something for the novice and the expert.

Celebrity makeup artist Mathew Nigara applying the Soho Spice City Duet colors on me.  What a treat! Mathew is fun, and informed us that we should have more fun with color.  He said to be daring and break out of the mold of matching color to our clothes.  But as you can see, I am old school! Besides, the rich, warm, vibrant blue was to gorgeous to pass up.  And, the it made my eyes sparkle.  I this palette!

StaceyBendet QMagSpread Stacey Bendet is Hip and Happy With M.A.C. Alice+Olivia Collection

alice+olivia started out being known for its awesome pants. How does a girl evolve from bell-bottoms to getting involved with the ultimate topper, makeup?

Well, to me it’s all about colouor, whether it’s a crazy pair of striped bell-bottoms or the perfect purple nail polish. It’s about a girl having a great time when she dresses up; and who dresses up without makeup?

As a line, a+o is known for it’s playful fun use of colour and textures. How does this translate in terms of your new collection with M.A.C?

We wanted the makeup to be fun and playful: for me clothing and cosmetics should be whimsical, they should both make you smile and feel flirtatious. With that in mind, I wanted our packaging and our colours to be like candy. Everyone loves candy.

You’re known to rock some pretty megacosmetics yourself. Can you describe your ultimate beauty look?

I am known for wearing really dark, defined eye makeup, bright fun nail poloish and pale glossy lip gloss; It was kind of amazing getting to translate my signature look into a M.A.C collection!

Who is your beauty icon?

My daughter Eloise. I mean, she wakes up and looks perfect. She even looks perfect with peanut butter and jelly smeared across her face and strawberry smoothie in her hair. I am so jealous.

What’s always in your makeup bag?

I always have a little bit of body glitter, a black M.A.C Liquidlast Liner and some sort of cream blush. And my secret for a dewy look is a touch of organic body oil on the cheeks.

Interview with Dawn Fitch, The Mastermind behind Pooka Pure and Simple

litas blog Interview with Dawn Fitch, The Mastermind behind Pooka Pure and Simple

Pooka Inc., is a handmade bath and body company based in New Jersey.  PookaPooka products are available online at: http://www.pookapureandsimple.com, and at Wholefoods grocery stores. Pure and Simple has been featured on The Today Show, and in numerous online and print publications.

I recently had the opportunity to sample the Pooka products, courtesy of Dawn Fitch, the founder and president of Pooka Pure and Simple.

The products are luscious! The Guava Juice shower gel gently cleansed, hydrated, and left my skin with the fresh scent of guava.  The heavenly smelling Coconut Crunch Sugar Body Polish utilizes a combination of organic cane sugar, and natural raw sugar, making this one of the best body exfoliators I’ve used.  The body polish, prepped my skin for the Fresh Sugah’ Whipped Cream body moisturizer.  I am in love with this product!  It’s light, rich and the smell is sweet but not overpowering.  I opted not to wear fragrance as this is enough on it’s own.  I like the fact that very little is needed and it left a nice healthy glow on my skin.   Can you tell that I like these products a bit?

Tayelor: Please tell us a little about yourself and how did the idea to start the eco~friendly line Pooka Pure & Simple come about?

Dawn: Pooka started after an illness, I was on a mission to feel better, I adopted a healthier lifestyle and started reading all of my food labels.   I loved body products and began reading the backs of my favorites, I was so surprised to read all of the chemicals and preservatives in them so I decided to make products that were good for me.

Tayelor: Where did the name “Pooka” come from?

Dawn: The name Pooka came from my mom, when we were little she used to call us her Pookalitas (even my brother LOL), I wanted to call the company Pookalita but it wouldn’t fit on the bottles so I just shortened it and called it Pooka!

Tayelor:  Do you have plans to develop a Pooka baby care line?

Dawn: We are working on our line for babies, we hope to introduce it in 2011.

Tayelor:  Which is your favorite/and best selling product?

Dawn: Our shea butter products are what flies off of the shelves. People love the rich shea butter consistency and the wonderful health benefits of shea butter.

Tayelor:  What new products are on the horizon for Pooka Pure & Simple? We are developing a natural deodorant right now and plan to launch it this fall.

large whippedcream Interview with Dawn Fitch, The Mastermind behind Pooka Pure and Simple

Pooka Pure and Simple Whipped Shea Butter $14

Tayelor:  How do you balance your personal and business life?

Dawn: I’m still working on that, LOL!  When Pooka began I worked all day and at night I was on my computer.  Now in year 9, I’ve had to allow myself to take a break and make time for myself.  I try to give myself a daily cut-off and after that it’s just Dawn time, no Pooka.  Also, you have to take a vacation, it’s scary because you feel like the business will fold if you’re away for too long, but it is a must so that you can rejuvenate.

Tayelor: What advice would you give to aspiring women entrepreneurs that are interested in working in the beauty industry?

Dawn: Perseverance is the key. There are days when you just want to throw in the towel but keep going it will be worth it in the end.  Make sure to join beauty trade organizations, it’s great to be surrounded by people who are doing what you do and get your friends and family involved, they make a great resource and they’re trustworthy.

Tayelor: What lessons have you learned from running your business?

Dawn: Too many to name, LOL! Hindsight is something, but I’ve learned so much about the business side of the business. When I started I just wanted to stay in the kitchen and create, but I had to learn to step away from the stove and handle other aspects of the business and I have to say I’ve learned so much about running a business from the inside out.
