NYFW Irina Shabayeva Fall 2010: Flight of the Fabulous Feathers

It’s become apparent that many of the finalists and winners of Project Runway, are now the new designer “Brat Pack” ruling the runways during New York Fashion Week. Leading the ladies of the pack, is season 6 winner, the beautiful Irina Shabayeva.

Irina’s Fall 2010 collection was absolutely gorgeous. I totally loved her combination of luxurious textures of feathers, fur, knits and wools which created haute styles fit for a diva on her way to Aspen. The over-sized collars, swing coats, jackets and sweaters, were glamorous with a touch of edge in fabulous fowl patterns.

Behind the Scenes: Project Runway Back in the Big Apple

ProjectRunwayTim Heidi Behind the Scenes: Project Runway Back in the Big Apple

Our favorite fashion frenzy is back! Project Runway has returned home to the Big Apple and kicked off Season 7 on Lifetime. Heidi Klum, now with baby #4, continues to rock the runway. The new diverse groups of competitive and skilled designers have brought their fashion talents and elements of major drama!!! Of course, we are all ready for those fabulous designs that are innovative and new, but let’s be honest we like watching the fierce competition that separates the wolves from the sheep. Let’s just admit that we secretly love to see the guys and gals get to their breaking points, sorry designers!

ProjectRunwayDesigners Behind the Scenes: Project Runway Back in the Big Apple

Christiane, Pamela and the emotional Ping have already been axed from the group; but we can see there is still plenty of trouble brewing in the workroom and on the runway. The first challenge was to personify the overall vision and talent of each individual and the capabilities to take their skills to the next round. Oddly enough, seeing Christiane’s runway look had a familiar identity to the dress Qristyl designed on Season 6, which we all remember the judges hated and obviously are still keeping strong to their guns.

On the second episode “Fashion Farm”, designers had to harvest creations from potato sacks aka burlap. For this challenge the “Models of the Runway” were their chosen clients and had lots of input on their style and vision for the final product. Model Elizaveta’s face said it all, with the embarrassment of her entire butt hanging out on the runway from Ping’s country fair nightmare. Ping seemed to be lost in translation when it came to understanding the challenge and what the judges were seeking from the garment. Pamela’s design was also lacking the wow factor, though she did transform the burlap into looking like denim, it wasn’t enough to hide the all the flaws on her poorly fitted dress.

Museum worthy gowns from classic designers, such as Dior and Yves Saint Laurent were the staple of last week’s challenge, designers studied the masters craftsmanship and were told to turn their inspiration into a high end luxury garment. Team leaders were assigned and collaborations were born. The designers were thrown a curve ball when half way through the challenge they were told to create a second design, a ‘look for less’ on a $50 budget. The second look had to be inspired from one of the other teams high end designs. While Ping drove Jesse insane with her “less by the book” design technique, Anthony and Seth also had trouble agreeing on a solid design. At one point their dress was having a Mickey D’s moment in the workroom. In the end, Mila won for her dominant perfection of separates and Ping was ponged for lack of strength in her team leadership.

We have seen some fresh and new ideas so far from the designers and will have to keep their fashion thinking caps on in order to become one step closer to being the winner of Project Runway. Let’s not forget the Bluefly.com Accessory Wall is also back and stocked with fierce “must have” pieces, providing the essentials to finalize the designers look. Check out this behind-the-scenes video of the Season 7 designers snatching and matching accessories from the Bluefly.com Accessory Wall as they try to “make it work” for the runway!

New York Fashion Week S/S 2010: Jillian Lewis & Mikhael Kale

The day before the “official” start to New York Fashion Week, two up and coming designers had a chance to show of their stuff in the Audi showroom on Park Avenue. Fast cars and hot models came full circle on a rotating floor displaying Jillian Lewis & Mikhael Kale’s collections for Spring/Summer 2010.

JILLIAN LEWIS

Former Project Runway contestant, Jillian Lewis’ collection was a combination of edgy, and modern softness for spring. Taking inspiration from hues of white, cream, black, ice blue, and flesh tone pinks, the pieces were sophisticated freshness. It was a mixture of sharp shoulders, sheer layering, light knit wears, blocked leggings, structured leathers and gorgeous satins paired up with hand-bag accessories from Beirn and shoes from Nine West

The models were stylized beautifully from head to toe with manicures and pedicures done by Pattie Yankee Williams from Dashing Diva. Pattie is nail artist to the stars and has over 25 years of experience; she stated that the big trends for next spring are extremely muted or matte tones, such as nudes, creams and grays.

MIKHAEL KALE

Mr. Kale came to deliver his collection of exquisitely structured dresses for women that are looking to make a statement when attending an evening gala or red carpet event. The Central St. Martin’s graduate used a variety of techniques with snakeskin, tiered silks, starched chiffons and distressed denim. The chain embroideries and elegant fringe detailing added just the right touches. Mikhael’s palette for color featured turquoises, pale pinks, sea greens and purples; it was ribbon candy for the body.

The models make-up, by Beaute Cosmetics, and Dashing Divas, again on nails, was kept fresh and clean. And speaking of “divas”, there were whispers at the show that Beyonce already put in an order with Mikhael from this collection. He is definitely one to watch. These designs are for women who are not afraid to take chance with fashion, and usually walk pass the “little black dress” in boutiques.

Stylin' and Profilin' at Blogher 09

I definitely made a few memories with my first trip to the Blogher Conference in Chicago. From chatting with Tim Gunn, hanging with hottie rockstars, being caught in compromising positions, to pontificating about blackmail and swaghags, it was fantabulous meeting new folks and getting to see many of my twitter/blogger pals in living color. Many of my fellow bloganistas and Blogher buddies were definitely stylin’ and profilin’ at this years Blogher conference from head to toe:

Katja Presnal - Blogher 2009(Katja of Skimbaco Lifestyle sexy & sassy in black satin dress ensemble complete with satin peep-toe heels by Coach. She was totally working the rockstar glam in her “Vivienne Westwood-esque” style.)

Nichelle of Stylemom & Audrey of Momgenerations(Stylemoms sqaured at the Hanes event – Nichelle and Audrey McClellan showing off her summers style in a strapless printed dress) This shirt sat in my closet all summer because I didn’t have the right undergarment until Bristols6 Nippies Natural saved the day! I highly recommend them, comfy and lasted all day! ;)

Janice of 5 minutes for mom (5 minutes with Susan was just enough time to snap a pic of her sporting her “first lady” look in this fabulous cocktail dress with embellished belt and fitted trumpet sleeves)

Victorias Shoes(Victoria showed off her moxie in these haute shoes: Laci woven peep-toe pumps in silver by Banana Republic)

STYLEMOM and Tim Gunn(Makin’ it work! With the fabulous Tim Gunn of Project Runway and Tide Total Care. In spite of feeling disheveled from running around from event to event, Tim said my outfit was very well put together and told me to keep up the good work – I gushed inside for like 3 hours…lol ;) )

Me_Renee_Victoria_BowlHER(Renee, Nichelle and Victoria at BowlHer – Now it wouldn’t be a party without a pose on the red carpet and a pink boa around your neck!)

Me_VictoriaBLOGHER09(Late night ice cream cakes and cocktails in the Baskin Robbins suite brought out the smiles at the end of the conference)

Check out more stylish pics of all the festivities:

What’s next for the blog ciricut? I’ll be having a Blogalicious good time in October for the 1st annual Blogalicious Weekend. If you’re a fellow blogger, I hope many of you can make it to Atlanta for the conference!

Stylemom's 100th Post! The Hot Moms of Maxim's 2009 Hot 100 List

While I was sourcing topics for my 100th post (yayee! applause! pageant wave! ;) ), it became a “no-brainer” when the Maxim’s Hot 100 list for 2009 came out earlier this month. So I decided to find out which of the lovely ladies on the Hot 100 were actually hot moms (with the help of my intern of course).

I assumed there would be around 12-15 hot moms that made the list, but to my disappointment there were only 8 out of 100. Now, you would think with ALL of the beautiful celebrity moms on the scene right now, there would have been at least a few more than 8!! I know some of these women have made it onto past Hot 100 lists, but what about Jennifer Gardner, Halle Berry, Jennifer Lopez, Victoria Beckham, Chyler Leigh, Rebecca Romijn, Gwen Stefani, Kelly Ripa, Claudia Schiffer, Eva Herzigova, Nicole Kidman and Giselle Bundchen??? C’mon Maxim! They’re still some of the hottest women around!! And, did they not see the sm-sm-smoking hot Cindy Crawford in French Vogue this past November?

CINDYCrawford

Okay, enough with my “mom-power” rant….

Stylemoms, fashionistas, and friends….without further adieu, I give you the 6 sizzling sexy moms that made the cut according to Maxim:

13. Jessica Alba

13-Jessica_Alba_Hot100_l

14. Christina Aguilera

14-Christina_Aguilera_Hot100_l

17. Britney Spears

17-Britney_Spears_Hot100_l

22. Kate Beckinsale

22-Kate_Beckinsale_Hot100_l

26. Angelina Jolie

26-Angelina_Jolie_Hot100_l

62. Heidi Klum

62-Heidi_Klum_Hot100_l

63. Milla Jovovich

63-Milla_Jovovich_Hot100_l

93. Michelle Obama

93-michelle_obama_Hot100_l

Now I admire and really dig our First Lady, but does this smell like more of a PR ploy to ride the political celebrity wave to get more coverage or is it just me? She’s hot as first ladies go, yes, but is she REALLY hotter than most of the aforementioned mommies that were snubbed from the list? Really? Let’s be real folks, the people on this list did not make it for their charitable contributions and good deeds. Even though that would be a good criteria for Maxim to consider in the future….yeah, right, I highly doubt it.

I also scoured the Maxim Hot 100 party pics and videos and did not see any of the hot moms in attendance or on the red carpet. (If you have a confirmed appearance by one of the hot moms at the party, let me know. I have found none.) Most likely, these women were all busy actually working and/or taking care of their families because after all, they are moms. However, I did find an interesting video from the party. In the video of interviews, some of the “straight” ladies who attended were asked the following question: “If you HAD to date a woman, who would it be?” Why is this interesting you say? Because as you can probably guess, the most popular answer was of course…one of the 8 hot moms on the list ;) :

I wouldn’t have chosen Angelina, she’s a Cancer and I’m a Leo, and those personality traits are not that compatible (and no, I’m not some die-hard astrology freak either). I would probably piss her off because I’m older than her and would command to be the boss in the relationship and so would she. Maybe someone like Kelly Ripa or Rachel Ray…it would definitely have to be a woman who could share the cooking! lol!!!

Hmmm…who would you pick? Leave a comment, and please let me know if there is another “hot mom” i did not mention that you feel should have made the list.
