Street Style: What I Wore New York Fashion Week

Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week was a mad dash around the city and I still don’t think I’m fully recovered. Your calendar is on steroids and trying to be fashionable, yet comfortable can be a serious juggling act for the week. Here’s what I wore:

What’s in my arsenal: Rock & Republic Jeans, Gucci Handbag, Coach Sequin Handbag, and Dollhouse over the knee boots, to name a few. Believe it or not, most of the clothing non-designer and purchased from either a wholesale or boutique store! Did I manage to pull off comfort & style? You be the judge! ;)

Fall Runway Report: Twinkle by Wenlan’s Inspiration – Mystery of the Forest

As we pack up those winter clothes, figure out what items to keep or toss, and get ready for spring, check out our Accessory Editor’s Top Pick for the Fall/Winter 2010 Season – Twinkle by Wenlen

Known for voluminous knitted layers, feminine cuts and classic fit pieces, Wenlan’s fall/winter 2010 collection was ultra sexy with a hint of gothic mystery. The usual clean, vibrant, and luxurious look has transitioned to the darker side this fall season.

Casual Wear
The sweater hooded jacket in charcoal tweed paired with leggings and knee high boots was my favorite outfit for the fall season. The look is classically casual with a hint of sex appeal.

Downtown Glam
Black on black – cowl neck hooded sweater with sheer arms paired with flower appliqué skinny pants are a true reflection of the cooler fall months, which was also a show favorite.

Understated Elegance
For an elegant contemporary look, Wenlan’s black strapless mini dress is also a season staple as its versatility adds variety to any women’s wardrobe. She chose to pair it with a large gold necklace adorned with colored beads. This sexy style is a holiday season must have.

Overall, Wenlan’s collection was simplistic but original, gothic but sexy, with a modernly hip edge.
Large chunky tops paired with skinny fit pants and leggings are what marked this collection and made it one of my favorites for the season. There are two words to sum up Wenlan’s fall/winter 2010 collection – effortlessly chic.

Real Housewives of NY at New York Fashion Week

I love love love the weekly clashes between the intense women on this season of Bravo’s Real Housewives of New York. So it’s always a thrill to bump into them at fashionable events around the city.

Modern Aviator: Ports 1961 Fall 2010 – New York Fashion Week

If you’ve seen Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smothsonian, you’re probably as smitten as I was with Amy Adams’ role as Amelia Earheart. From her wonderful curly hair, to her spunky “take on the world” attitude and relentless drive, she represented the “can-do” woman in all of us. As we approach Women’s History Month, Earheart was a fitting muse for designer Tia Cabani and the Ports 1961 Fall 2010 collection.

The color palette was rich with warm and earthy tones of caramel, mocha, sage, rust, ginger and spice and everything nice. Complimenting the delicious hues was a range of textures from knits, silks, satins, lame (p. la-may), to velvet.

NYFW Irina Shabayeva Fall 2010: Flight of the Fabulous Feathers

It’s become apparent that many of the finalists and winners of Project Runway, are now the new designer “Brat Pack” ruling the runways during New York Fashion Week. Leading the ladies of the pack, is season 6 winner, the beautiful Irina Shabayeva.

Irina’s Fall 2010 collection was absolutely gorgeous. I totally loved her combination of luxurious textures of feathers, fur, knits and wools which created haute styles fit for a diva on her way to Aspen. The over-sized collars, swing coats, jackets and sweaters, were glamorous with a touch of edge in fabulous fowl patterns.

Celeb Stylemoms Strut Their Stuff at Heart Truth Show

The East Coast was dealing with a major blizzard, the second in one week, but I was preparing to attend my first fashion show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.  I never would have thought that my job as an Account Executive with a Project Management company would’ve landed me tickets to a show, but since my client Tylenol was a major sponsor, I scored an invite to the Heart Truth runway show at Bryant Park! :) Getting to see a show at the final season at the tents  was all I could think about, and I was not about to let a foot of snow keep me from getting to New York from Philadelphia. Our train was delayed but we got there just in time…although I would quickly learn that fashion shows NEVER start on time.

There was so much energy in the room, and many fabulous women and style moms were about to walk the runway for an important cause. Finally the show kicked off with Kristin Chenoweth wearing a Daniel Swarovski dress. Next up was “Desperate Housewives,” Felicity Huffman in Oscar de la Renta, who stopped to kiss her hubby, William H. Macy, sitting in the front row.  Raven Symoné came out looking fabulous wearing a Tadashi Shoji gown. At the end of her walk, Raven tripped and lost a shoe, so she kicked the other one off nonchalantly and proceeded to strut her stuff.

Real Housewife of New York, and soon to be mommy, Bethany Frankel came out to the Supremes song Baby Love, showing off her baby bump in a Stylemom favorite, Isabella Oliver dress. There was more “high-heel drama” when another fab mom, olympic swimmer, Dara Torres came out in a Rachel Roy dress with her heels in her hand.

Kim Kardashian came out wearing Marchesa and blowing kisses to her boyfriend Reggie Bush who was in the front row.  Mom mogul, Kimora Lee, walked the runway in a dress from her Kouture by Kimora line.  Last but certain not least was our favorite hot mom, Heidi Klum in a dress by John Galliano and she looked absolutely stunning as always.

Other celebrities who worked the runway were Elisabeth Hasselbeck in Donna Karan, Estelle in Zac Posen, Jordin Sparks in Badgley Mischka, Mamie Gummer in Michael Kors, Pauley Perrette in Rebecca Taylor, Regina King in Tracy Reese, Robin Roberts in J. Crew Collectiom, Joan Collins in Stephane Rolland and Valerie Harper in Pamella Roland.

Gen Art’s “New Garde” Provides Life After Project Runway

Now we know even if you don’t get crowned the winner, there is life after the show for the losing contestants on Project Runway. Daniel Feld and Wesley Nault proved that the beginning of New York Fashion Week. As the designer duo, WesFeld, they beat out 160 designers across the country to win $10,000 and showcase their winning looks in New York at Gen Art’s “New Garde” Show sponsored by Plastics Makes it Possible.

Gen Arts New Garde Provides Life After Project Runway

The designers were required to create two women’s wear looks made from plastic and plastic-based fabrics for the competition. Inspired from earth’s natural beauty, they transformed their visions into two incredibly beautiful evening gowns that had an overwhelming positive response and ultimately shined above the rest.

WesFeld delivered a romantic, opaque collection around their winning designs that had texture and structure delicately mixed with edgy elegance. Seashells and fossilized sea horses came to life in forms of poly-organza and poly-taffeta mixed with detailing like plastic boning and molded plexi-glass. Playful names like the “conch” dress and “snail” dress hit the mark when describing their creations for the collection. The clothes had great editorial appeal and were steered to a client that wants to stand out and take a risk.

The Gen Art show also featured collections from designers Gar-De, Sophomore & Nomia.

In the middle of a major blizzard Molly Sims hosted the Gen Art show in Manhattan and plenty of fashionistas came out in the brutal elements to see the show. Familiar faces from Project Runway like Stella Zotis, Kenley Collins, came to support the duo as well as other fashion celebs like CariDee English, winner of America’s Next Top Model Cycle 7.

New York Fashion Week: J. Mendel Spring 2010 Presentation

“Elegant technicality. Fluid Emotion. these are the tenets of J. Mendel’s Spring 2010 collection. – J. Mendel

J. Mendel’s collection was an absolute stunning showcase of luxurious fabrics, intricate cuts, draping, natural and airy color palettes, along with touches of soft fur. “Each piece is an emotion.”, says designer Gilles Mendel. The muses for Mendel and this collection were artists Noriko Ambe and Tara Donovan. Ambe is a master of creating works composed of elaborate cuts, and Ms. Donovan is known for her incredible biomorphic sculptures.

As soon as I laid eyes on the collection, my pupils dilated and it evoked an emotion in me that all women want to feel: “I feel pretty, sexy and chic.”  Innovative, modern and elegant, the collection possessed looks that almost any woman could feel beautiful in, all the way down to the shoes, which were none other than Christian Louboutin.

Leifsdottir S/S 2010 – New York Fashion Week

When I walked into the Leifsdottir S/S 2010 presentation during New York Fashion Week, I was whisked away to another time and place. Casablanca meets 1950′s French Riviera, the loft had been transformed to a land of palm leaves and tropical bird cages.
