Fashion For A Good Cause: Hero in Heels

HeroinHeelLogo Fashion For A Good Cause: Hero in HeelsOn June 10th, the Wish Upon a Hero Foundation, an online nonprofit that grants requests to people in need, held its 1st Hero in Heels fashion show and celebrity shoe auction at the Trust Building in Philadelphia. Founded by my former colleague Dave Girgenti, Wish Upon A Hero Foundation created the Hero in Heels program which benefits women affected by cancer and other  life-altering diseases.

Hero in Heels collected signed celebrity donated shoes and then auctioned them off online and at the live event. The money raised from the auction grants the wishes of women who are suffering with cancer, including the purchase of wigs, prosthesis, as well as helping with their basic necessities. Over 20 pairs of designer shoes were auctioned off last week during the Hero in Heels charity auction that raised more than $9,600 for women battling cancer. Most shoes went for $200 on the auction, with the exception of Jennifer Anniston’s Jimmys which were auctioned for $800. Other notable celebs donating signed shoes were Jessica Biehl, Taylor Swift, Estelle, Scarlott Johansson, and Ali Larter.

Wish Upon a Hero’s Dave Girgenti tells the Philadelphia Inquire:
“I wanted to put together a fund-raiser for women using something they were very passionate about…and we know that women are passionate about shoes.”

The runway show featured collections by local Philly designer brands Walish Gooshe, SAVA, and Carmelita Couture.

There’s nothing quite as fabulous to fashionistas as boutique shopping. I, personally have scored some great finds over the years. Last week, we celebrated the independent retailers of NYC, and this week the celebration moves to Philadelphia. Sipping on mint-less mojitos from Don Q, Stylemom’s EIC, Nichelle kicked off Philly’s Independent Retail Week with Founder/Nolcha CEO, Kerry Bannigan, Bel Esprit, and a host of other fab fashion friends at the Shops at Liberty Place.

STYLEMOM Night Out: Winning Cool Mom Points With Asher Roth and Kid Cudi

Many of you who read this blog or follow me on twitter, probably know that I love music and will rock out to anything from alternative/grunge/rock-n-roll to hip-hop and reggae. Earlier this summer, I took my little guy to a dance party Questlove of The Roots, and this time it was his older brother’s turn for a music outing. So I threw on my 7 for all Mankind jeans, black and silver Pumas, my favorite Wu-Tang t-shirt, and Prada messenger bag to get ready for a night of Gen-Y and Millenial mayhem with my teen son and his BFF. We headed to Philly for one of the last concerts on the Great Hangover Tour featuring Asher Roth, Kid Cudi and 88-Keys.

My son and his BFF had a blast hanging out backstage at the show. They even proclaimed this experience as the best part of their entire summer, and if they had to write a “what did you do for the summer” story, as they did in elementary school, the entire story would have been about this one night – (definite “cool mom points” collected for the rest of 2009 ;) ). Special thanks to my favorite music man and 88-Keys for making it all happen.

Here’s my Stylemom pics from all three artists to add to your ipod:

Asher Roth: refreshing to see a young man/artist with thought and purpose in his lyrics, check out the video for Just Listen (acapella)

Kid Cudi: This beat is hot, and makes you want to shake your a$$ – Cudi Spazzin’

88-Keys: Soulful, groovy, and the title is just perfect for this post ;)m.i.l.f.

Stylin' and Profilin' at Blogher 09

I definitely made a few memories with my first trip to the Blogher Conference in Chicago. From chatting with Tim Gunn, hanging with hottie rockstars, being caught in compromising positions, to pontificating about blackmail and swaghags, it was fantabulous meeting new folks and getting to see many of my twitter/blogger pals in living color. Many of my fellow bloganistas and Blogher buddies were definitely stylin’ and profilin’ at this years Blogher conference from head to toe:

Katja Presnal - Blogher 2009(Katja of Skimbaco Lifestyle sexy & sassy in black satin dress ensemble complete with satin peep-toe heels by Coach. She was totally working the rockstar glam in her “Vivienne Westwood-esque” style.)

Nichelle of Stylemom & Audrey of Momgenerations(Stylemoms sqaured at the Hanes event – Nichelle and Audrey McClellan showing off her summers style in a strapless printed dress) This shirt sat in my closet all summer because I didn’t have the right undergarment until Bristols6 Nippies Natural saved the day! I highly recommend them, comfy and lasted all day! ;)

Janice of 5 minutes for mom (5 minutes with Susan was just enough time to snap a pic of her sporting her “first lady” look in this fabulous cocktail dress with embellished belt and fitted trumpet sleeves)

Victorias Shoes(Victoria showed off her moxie in these haute shoes: Laci woven peep-toe pumps in silver by Banana Republic)

STYLEMOM and Tim Gunn(Makin’ it work! With the fabulous Tim Gunn of Project Runway and Tide Total Care. In spite of feeling disheveled from running around from event to event, Tim said my outfit was very well put together and told me to keep up the good work – I gushed inside for like 3 hours…lol ;) )

Me_Renee_Victoria_BowlHER(Renee, Nichelle and Victoria at BowlHer – Now it wouldn’t be a party without a pose on the red carpet and a pink boa around your neck!)

Me_VictoriaBLOGHER09(Late night ice cream cakes and cocktails in the Baskin Robbins suite brought out the smiles at the end of the conference)

Check out more stylish pics of all the festivities:

What’s next for the blog ciricut? I’ll be having a Blogalicious good time in October for the 1st annual Blogalicious Weekend. If you’re a fellow blogger, I hope many of you can make it to Atlanta for the conference!

Meet Kenneth Cole as he Joins the Rebel Heel Movement

Could it be? Could it really be that designers may actually migrate out of the mile high club for shoes and actually promote comfortable footwear for women? I wouldn’t count on a mass exodus from sky high heels, but the 925 collection from Kenneth Cole, is on the forefront of the “movement to support movement“. The 411 from Kenneth Cole:

Over the last 4 years, we’ve been trying to answer this question: WHY CAN’T A FASHION SHOE FEEL AS GOOD AS IT LOOKS?  We’re pleased to announce that we’ve solved that long-standing problem with our exclusive 925 TECHNOLOGY…..

This means that women will no longer need two different pairs of shoes to address the need for comfortable “wear to commute” styles in addition to “wear at the office” heels. Plus, women can wear them from day into night, without needing that “shoe stash” at work. It’s truly our movement to support movement and, in turn, our effort to save the soles of shoe lovers across the world.

If you’re looking for an extra stylish morning, go check out the 925 Collection and meet Kenneth Cole in person!

WHERE: Rockefeller Center Store, NYC
WHEN: Friday, August 7th from 9-10 a.m.

Kenneth Cole925 Launch Event

Well I must admit, I’m not totally giving up my platform heel fetish anytime soon, but I will make sure my shoe repertoire has a balance of flats, low and high heel options…as well as keeping a pair flip-flops/flats in my bag when the dogs start barking! ;)

So Fashionistas, support the rebel heel movement – grab some java and have a fashionable morning with Kenneth Cole on Aug. 7th.

Fall Fashion Creativity with Lloyd Boston at Jones New York

Guacamole dreams, margarita mojo, and miles of style permeated the showroom at the Jones New York 2009 Fall/Holiday Preview. Our most charming host was style expert, Lloyd Boston – the man with the million dollar smile and host of Fine Living Network’s Closet Cases. I had such a fantabulous time, that I now proclaim Lloyd as one of my new BFFs (Best Friend in Fashion as FLN puts it ;) ).

Me_LloydBoston(Lloyd Boston and Nichelle, Stylemom – Photo by Kristin Booker)

It was exciting to learn that Lloyd was also an evangelist for the “moms don’t give up on style” movement.  Check out Lloyd as he gives the 411 on how busy moms don’t have to sacrifice great style, in this “Mommalicious Makeover” of his own beautiful mother:

[vodpod id=Groupvideo.3089044&w=425&h=350&fv=%26rel%3D0%26border%3D0%26]

During our fashion chat, Lloyd brought up a key point: we as women don’t really run out of clothes, we run out of ideas and creativity. This made me think, if it wasn’t for the economic recession and the ever growing green-movement, would women just be creatively complacent when it came to fashion and style? Would trends like vintage shopping, DIY/handmade fashion, and “shopping your closet” be as popular? Definitely some fashion food for thought.

With countless conversations of chic, and an abundance of stylish inspirations, the JNY Fall/Winter09 collection included beautiful cashmeres, classic jackets, and punches of brilliant color.

Some of my favorite fashionistas were in the house: Kristin Booker of Fashion.Style.Beauty, Sarah Conley of StyleIT, Felicia Sullivan, along with Nichelle Gainer of 55 Secret Street. Check out 55 Secret Street’s  interview with Lloyd Boston at the JNY event.

Finally, be sure to watch JNY’s Style Miles Ep.6, as Lloyd demonstrates how to make 25 looks from using 5 items in your closet (click logo):
